It may be summer, but still it rains,
Which affects the ancient drains,
Causing them to overflow,
From water rising from below.
It former times the drains were fine,
Built to an adequate design
To cope with the much smaller use
That fewer people would produce.
But now today, they cannot cope,
And in the future cannot hope
To deal with all the increased load,
That on them is now bestowed.
They need renewing, so that they
Can meet the needs of drains today.
