Christmas Eve

Hardly a sound disturbs the evening peace,
As traffic has appeared almost to cease;
The streets are fairly empty now of cars,
Whose presence peaceful streets so often mars;
No noise of parties issuing from flats,
With windows closed, no sound of even chats’
In several homes there twinkle Christmas trees,
Though seemingly much fewer now of these;
And then the sound of church bells fills the air,
Reminding all the people living there
It’s time to leave if they would play their part,
As Midnight Mass will very shortly start,
