I Must Sit and Write

I must put pen to paper, or switch my computer on;

If I don't do one or the other, yet another day will be gone

Without doing any writing, not even a poem or play,

I know that I should be producing at least one item per day.

But as in life so often happens, other things tend to intrude,

I've many times written nothing, as other paths I pursued;

But if I'm to finish the novel, I know in my mind without doubt,

Each day I must make a real effort getting pen or computer out,

And keep my mind just on writing till the length of my novel's increased,

And I'm nearer the time of completion by a thousand words at least.
