It would be nice to live in a land bought
Where all politicians made a stand
For what they believed, instead of as now
Changing their viewpoints by the hour.
So many change to suit the crowd,
Forever saying clear
and loud
What they think people want to hear,
Living always in constant fear
They’ll say something wrong and lose support,
Of groups that they know they could have bought
If only they’d picked up all the cues
And made them think they shared their views,
