The First Snow

As I look out the window what catches my eye,
Are tiny white flakes floating down from the sky;
They land on the ground but they soon melt away,
Being just a precursor of winter today.
Later on, heeding the winter’s loud call,
The snow will return with a much larger fall,
Which won’t melt away when it lands on the ground,
But rather for days will be lying around.
