The Theatre

A chance to leave the world behind
And seek a place where you can find
Stories told in various ways
In shorter and in longer plays.
Some may try to entertain
With little need to use your brain;
Others may be very deep
So it needs a conscious leap
To understand the message there
Concealed with subtlety and flair.
Some may simply make you laugh,
Others may be half and half
With funny moments slipped between
Each highly charged dramatic scene.
Some may focus on romance
With lots of music, songs and dance.
Others may attempt to scare
Any nervous patrons there.
Subjects range across the board
For everything will strike a chord
With someone, as it makes them feel
This to them is something real.
Some may have a lot of props
Bought, hired or borrowed from the shops;
Others may use nothing more
Than the basics from their store.
Some theatres may be very small,
Others have a barn-like hall.
But whether they are small or large
The function that they all discharge
Is making people's lives more fun,
With all the plays the theatres run.
