Stress at Work

The boss is demanding an answer
Despite there being too little time
To dig out the facts and the figures;
You’d think it was really a crime
That you can't produce miracles easily,
You need space to think and prepare,
Remembering that maybe the answer
In some cases just isn't there.

The boss spends his time watching closely
And checking that you're on the phone;
You're conscious all day you are working
You're not for a minute alone.
He listens to all conversations,
And comments on how long they took;
He's constantly at you to hurry,
And stares with a critical look.

Colleagues all spend their time trying
To get on at others' expense;
Backstabbing's part of the culture,
Which leaves many staff feeling tense.
Relaxing is never an option,
And many would say if you pressed,
They go home each evening exhausted

As well as being terribly stressed.
