The Budget

Another budget!  Who can guess,
Who'll pay more and who'll pay less?
Will the tax be upped on beer,
As its fervent drinkers fear?
Or may this time what's in store,
Is wine and spirits will cost more.
Or cigarettes may take a hit
With tax again raised up a bit.
Income tax - there's so much scope
For increase, one can only hope
It's wealthy earners who will find
Their pockets will be less well lined.
The likelihood is also that
The Government will increase VAT,
From which there is no doubt it's clear,
Most goods will then become more dear.
Will benefits soon be increased,.
Or even stay the same at least?
Or is the time approaching when
Petrol will go up again?
Or will they maybe now attempt
Reducing what is VAT exempt?
Whatever happens there will be
Little cause for joy and glee.
